Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau was reportedly on the verge of joining Saudi Professional League side Al Taawoun FC.
The protracted transfer saga surrounding Percy Tau’s future at Al Ahly has taken another twist after reports emerged from Egypt that the club had accepted an offer for his services from Saudi Arabian side Al Taawoun.
That is according to former Al Ahly defender Omar Rabie Yassin h/t Ahly News who claimed that the club had allowed for Tau’s departure in a deal that would have seen former Zamalek player Mustafa Fathi move in the opposite direction.
However, it is claimed further that the transaction ultimately collapsed due to pressure from Zamalek who are courting Fathi’s return, leaving the currently injured Tau in limbo over his next move.
“Al-Ahly had accepted the departure of Tau (as part of a deal that would) include Mustafa Fathi in the new season before the transfer market closes in Saudi Arabia,” Yassin said during a recent television appearance, as translated.
“The deal was not completed due to the pressures of Zamalek for [Fathi’s] return, and Tau was part of Al-Ahly’s deal with Saudi club to acquire the services of the Fathi this summer.”
It remains unclear whether further attempts will be made to reach an agreement but time is running out for Al Ahly to secure Tau a move away from the club with the Saudi Arabian transfer window set to shut on Saturday, 17 September.
