According to West police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Sam Tselanyane, the incident occurred on Thursday, 1 January 2026, in Vryburg.
“It’s alleged that police received a report of an inquest from a local hospital.
“Upon arrival, police were directed to a surgical ward, where they found a man lying on a bed with no signs of life.”
“The deceased sustained wounds and scratches on both his hands and legs, after allegedly being bitten by pitbull dogs,” he said.
Tselanyane said the victim was transported to the hospital by Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) on Thursday at about 2.30am and passed away on Friday night, 2 January.
“The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation. The deceased is believed to be a Pakistani national, who was allegedly renting a room or was a tenant at the address where the dogs attacked him,” he said.
Tselanyane said preliminary investigations revealed this wasn’t the first time the dogs had allegedly attacked tenants at the premises.
He said there’s also a pending case set to be heard at the local magistrates court in February.
