Tselane Lebogang Mautla (38), a neighbour accused of shooting dead Obakeng Minyuku (5) on Saturday, 24 January in Chris Hani in Hammanskraal in Tshwane briefly appeared in the Moretele Magistrates Court on Tuesday, 27 January.

Magistrate TA Mokgwatlheng postponed the matter to 4 February for a formal bail application.

The suspect broke into tears during court proceedings. The community came in large numbers in court to support the family during court proceedings.

Obakeng’s aunt, Mapule (38), said they have not been okay since her nephew’s death.

She called for justice for Obakeng.

“We were not close with the suspect, but would see her as neighbours. I don’t want to even see her anymore. It was very hard when we heard about it,” she said.

Mapule Minyuku, Obakeng Minyuku’s aunt, says they have not been okay since he was killed.

She said Obakeng’s mother is struggling to cope.

“My nephew loved going to school and was excited. He would ask us even on weekends if he was going to school today,” she said.

Neighbour, Mapula Maloka (58), said: “We are heartbroken by his death. We want justice. He was a little boy.”

Gauteng police spokeswoman, Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, said: “As per the case number you provided, that is a murder case opened at Temba Police Station. The female suspect was arrested on Sunday, 25 January.”
