Early Life
Nay Maps was born in Pretoria, South Africa. He is the eldest of three children born to the late Bishop Simeon Maphalala and his wife.
Nay Maps grew up in Pretoria with his two younger sisters. He attended Sunnyside Primary School for his primary education and later enrolled at Lyttleton Manor High School.
After completing high school, he pursued a bachelor’s degree in information technology with a major in programming and software at the University of Pretoria.
Career
Nay Maps developed a passion for the creative arts from a young age. Although his university education was focused on computers, he started his career in the entertainment industry by working on the Channel ANN7 television series called The Lifestyle Show.
He then ventured into professional modelling, representing various brands in filmed commercials.
In 2014, Nay Maps landed his breakthrough acting role as Tshepo in the South African soap opera Isibaya. This marked the beginning of his successful acting career.
He gained widespread recognition for his portrayal of Mxolisi Mdletshe in the hit television series Uzalo. Nay Maps also appeared in the Netflix comedy special Little Big Mouth alongside Amanda du Pont.
In 2019, he joined the cast of the popular television drama The Queen, portraying the character Dingane Khoza.
In 2020, Nay Maps left The Queen under unclear circumstances, with rumours circulating about whether he was fired or left voluntarily. However, in late 2021, it was reported that he would be making a comeback to the show.
Music Career
Apart from his acting prowess, Nay Maps is also pursuing a music career. He released his debut single, “I’ll Be There,” in July 2022, showcasing his vocal talents.
In an interview with the SowetanLive, he expressed his love for music and the desire to share meaningful stories through his songs.
“Now is the right time for me to venture into music because I have very interesting stories that I want to share, stories that I feel people will relate to. The things that I have gone through to date, I think, are enough to tell that through my music,” Nay Maps said.
