Due to the extent of the fire, a significant number of firefighting resources were deployed, including three major pumpers, two Sakkie Bakkies and a water tanker, supported by two fire appliances from Ashburton District Fire Services.

Residents had evacuated the affected dwellings, with some having moved their belongings to the surrounding streets.
Firefighters worked to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to neighbouring dwellings.

The fire was brought under control, although firefighting operations remain active as crews continue to deal with residual hotspots and ensure that the area is safe.
It is currently estimated that approximately 100 dwellings may have been affected. This figure remains subject to verification once a detailed assessment of the affected area has been completed.
The firefighting operation was supported by Disaster Management, the South African Police Service (SAPS) Public Order Policing Unit and Msunduzi Security, particularly in managing the operational environment around the incident.

At the time of issuing this statement, no injuries or fatalities had been reported.
The cause of the fire is currently undetermined and will be subject to further assessment.
The Municipality acknowledges the impact of the incident on affected residents and will continue to coordinate the appropriate response and support mechanisms through the relevant municipal departments and emergency services.
