Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has given Bongani Zungu a reality check, insisting that the midfielder needs to pull up his socks.
Zungu returned to Sundowns at the beginning of the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season after he left them back in 2016 to join Portugal outfit Vitoria Guimaraes before having stints in Ligue 1 at Amiens SC and Rangers in the Scottish League.

Since his return, Zungu has struggled for game time. This was mainly due to lack of fitness and stiff competition in the star-studded Sundowns side
Zungu, who is a highly-rated midfielder, has only made eight appearances in all competitions this campaign.
The 30-year-old attacker is yet to score a goal and register an assist in his second stint at the club.
According to Mokwena, Zungu is aware of the stiff competition in the team; therefore, he must work hard to become a regular starter.
Mokwena insists that a place in the Tshwane giants team is earned as football is a game that needs you to constantly prove yourself.

“Football has very little regard for name, reputation, or money because you put in and invest, and it gives back. Zungu has to understand that he has to compete with everybody because that’s life,” Mokwena told the media.
“Life is not fair; these are the empowerment values that we try to give all our players. Everybody must fight for a place in the team like you fight to achieve things in life.
“Nothing in life is given to you on a silver platter, you have to fight to achieve a starting place in this team.”
Mokwena further stated where Bongani Zungu must improve on to be on the right track.
