The brave boy inspired thousands with his courage during a long battle against a rare and painful illness.

Mohamed had been living with a condition that affected his kidneys and feet, making everyday life a struggle.

Despite years of pain, hospital visits, and the loss of his mum in 2025, the boy never stopped smiling or trying to live every day to the fullest.

His passing was confirmed by his caregiver, Desmond Ramaru.

Desmond has been by his side for years, taking him to hospital, arranging donations, and making sure he never faced his illness alone.

Desmond shared the sad news on Facebook, writing: “I didn’t want to do this, but I have to. With the permission of the family, I just want to confirm the passing of my boy Mokoena.

“He was admitted to hospital on Saturday complaining about heavy chest pains and yesterday afternoon (Monday 2 February) it was confirmed that he passed on.

“You left a very deep hole in my heart. I know you were very sick, but I didn’t expect you to leave me this early. RIP boy.”

Speaking to Daily Sun, Desmond Ramaru confirmed the passing of Mohamed Mokoena. He described Mohamed as a bubbly and brilliant boy who never let his illness defeat him.

“He was a happy soul and a bright kid. At the moment, we’re raising funds to give him a proper farewell on Saturday.”

“He comes from a family of five, with the eldest only 24 years old. They have no working family members, no parents, and no insurance policies,” he said.

Desmond revealed that Mohamed loved school and attended classes whenever his health allowed, but his illness often kept him in and out of hospital.

He said Mohamed’s mum sadly passed away in April last year. To support the family with funeral arrangements, Desmond said they have started a BackaBuddy fundraising campaign, with all information available on his social media platforms.
