Mamelodi Sundowns co-caoch Manqoba Mngqithi has heavily criticised the match officials after his side’s last-minute win over Chippa United.
Masandawana collected three points to move back to the top of the log thanks to Peter Shalulile’s injury-time winner.
However, Mngqithi was not happy with the performance of the referee, insisting he should have given far more injury time after Chippa’s delaying tactics.
“I’m also a little bit unhappy with what our officials are doing now. How many times was the goalkeeper down, how many substitutions were made and you only have four minutes in a game where I think seven or eight minutes could’ve been added,” he told SuperSport TV.
“This is what has been happening how many times? We’re seeing these kind of delaying tactics in the PSL and if I had lost the match people would be saying I’m complaining because I lost the match.
“The truth is in the PSL we are playing far less minutes. Last time we were checking the ball is in the game in the PSL for 43 minutes, yet we’re expected to play 90 minutes because the referees are not making sure that the stoppages are very short and whatever stoppage is there they put it in the end.
“We can’t be playing 43 minutes in the PSL when we’ve got a game of 90 minutes.”
Mngqithi also wasn’t happy with the fourth official, saying his slow actioning on their late wish for a substitution led to Aubrey Modiba being sent off.
“The Modiba yellow card was uncalled for,” he added.
“Because what we had asked, the fourth official was having those substitution boards for too long and we want to make a substitution, he’s still sitting with those boards, he’s not making a substitution and Aubrey makes a mistake of holding the ball because if Aubrey holds the ball he’s stopping the game to continue and that was unnecessary.
“But the truth of the matter is the fourth official had the substitution papers very early and we’ve been waiting for the stoppage and when we got that stopped he’s still busy with the boards. That is what we were complaining about.”
