Minnie Dlamini is a South African on-air personality, actress, and model who rose to fame as the host of the SABC 1 Friday live-music show Live Amp in 2010.

She has since co-hosted several local and international award ceremonies, starred in various TV shows and films, and launched her own fashion and skincare lines.

Minnie is also the founder of the Minnie Dlamini Foundation, a charity organisation that aims to help young South African girls access quality education.

Early Life and Education

Minnie Dlamini was born Minenhle Dlamini on July 7, 1990, in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal Province of South Africa. She is the daughter of Jabulani and Queen Dlamini and has a brother named Khosini Dlamini. She was nicknamed Minnie by her family members when she was young.

She attended Northlands Girls’ High School in Durban, where she was a prefect and a head girl. She was also involved in sports, drama, and choir activities.

She then enrolled at the University of Cape Town, where she studied film, media, drama, and economics. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 2011.

Career

While studying at the University of Cape Town, Dlamini auditioned for a presenter role for LIVE, a music show on SABC 1.

She was selected as the new host in June 2010, after making her debut screen appearance while covering the Youth Day and World Cup celebrations shows.

Minnie became an instant sensation among the viewers with her charisma and charm.

Minnie Dlamini later co-hosted Mzansi Insider, a lifestyle show on SABC 1, from 2011 to 2012. The host resigned from the show to pursue a career in acting.

However, she returned to host in 2013, when she switched to sports broadcasting by co-hosting Soccerzone with Thomas Mlambo on SABC 1. She continued to host the show until 2016 when the format was changed by the channel.

Minnie Dlamini made her acting debut in 2010 when she guest-starred as Miranda on Generations, a popular soap opera on SABC 1.

She then landed her first lead role as Zintle Lebone on The Wild, another soap opera on M-Net, from 2011 to 2013. The TV personality played the role of a rebellious daughter of a wealthy family who falls in love with a wildlife veterinarian.

Minnie also starred as Nosipho Bogatsu on Rockville, a drama series on Mzansi Magic, from 2013 to 2016. She portrayed the role of a young woman who gets involved in a drug cartel after losing her job.

Personal Life

Minnie Dlamini married Quinton Jones, a TV producer and director, in a traditional wedding on July 8, 2017, in Glenn Hills, Durban North.

The couple then had a white wedding on September 16, 2017, at Lourensford Wine Estate in Cape Town. The wedding was broadcast as a three-part reality docu-series called Minnie Dlamini: Becoming Mrs Jones on Vuzu Amp on DStv. The show became the highest-rated show in Vuzu Amp history.

On September 12, 2020, Minnie Dlamini announced via Instagram that she was pregnant with her first child.

She posted a picture of herself cradling her baby bump with the caption “Starting a family with you Mr Jones is a dream come true, and I couldn’t have chosen a better man to be the father of our child.” She gave birth to a baby boy named Netha Makhosini Jones on November 16, 2020.

Divorce

However, in early 2022, Minnie and Jones filed for divorce after four years of marriage. The reason for the split was rumoured to be Dlamini’s alleged affair with businessman Edwin Sodi, who was also involved in a corruption scandal.

Dlamini denied the allegations and said that she and Jones had grown apart and decided to end their marriage amicably.
