AC Milan were crowned Serie A champions through a thorough 3-0 victory over Sassuolo on the final day on Sunday.

Milan carried a five-match winning run into their season-defining clash, and had the tried and tested figures such as Rafael Leao, Franck Kessi, Sandro Tonali and Olivier Giroud included.

It was the latter that got the ball rolling well towards the opening quarter when he took a cutback from Leao in his stride and finished under-neath goalkeeper Andrea Consigli.

The Frenchman added his and the Rossoneri’s second just after half-hour mark with a simple finish from close-range following another delivery by Leao.

With nine minutes to halftime, Milan made it three through a powerful strike from Kessie after he latched onto a reverse pass from Leao.

Milan looked to add a fourth following the closing quarter through veteran Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but his effort didn’t stand and it was disallowed for offside.

In the end, that goal that wasn’t didn’t matter as the Rossoneri emerged victors and landed the title following an 11-year wait.

Inter Milan 3-0 Sampdoria

Inter Milan lost grip of the title on the final day despite claiming a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Sampdoria.

The Nerazzurri named two new additions from the win at Cagliari where Denzel Dumfries came in for Matteo Darmian and Edin Dzeko vacated duty for Joaquin Correa.

There were no goals during the course of the first half, but the host went and bagged the opener earlier in the second half when Ivan Perisic volleyed a smart ball from Nicolo Barella into the net.

Inter made it two with just ten minutes from the restart as Correa curled a one-two with Hakan Calhanoglu from the edge of the area beyond the reach of their opposite number.

Correa bagged a brace within a few minutes when he dropped a shoulder after he charged into the area and applied a stern finish on the half-turn with the defence caught wanting.

However, the victory wasn’t enough to see the Nerazzurri secure back-to-back titles and lost out to rivals AC Milan in the end.
