Former Orlando Pirates attacker Thulasizwe Mbuyane has spilled the beans about the events that led to his departure from the club in 2014.

Mbuyane joined Pirates from Free State Stars in 2008, and he was an integral part of the team’s double-treble success between 2010 and 2012.

Now, his stint with Pirates came during Roger de Sa’s tenure as head coach, and this was soon after it came to his attention that Stanley ‘Screamer’ Tshabalala had instructed the coach NOT to play him.

To this day, Mbuyane doesn’t know why Screamer would instruct De Sa to bench him because no reason was given to him but he suspects it had to do with his off-the-pitch behaviour or being vocal on certain issues.

In his own words, Mbuyane revealed that both Screamer and Floyd Mbele (administrative officer) would have meetings with coaches before they could talk with players during half-time breaks.

Furthermore, Mbuyane confirmed that at Pirates, the coaches don’t have a say on who the club signs, and that is the job of the club’s hierarchy.

MBUYANE REVEALS SCREAMER INSTRUCTED DE SA NOT TO PLAY HIM AT PIRATES

“I was told by Roger de Sa that, ‘the old man says I must not play you’. Bra Stan (Stanley Tshabalala),” revealed Mbuyane on TK Solutions TV.

“And I was like, ‘you shouldn’t play me?’, and he said, ‘yes’. This game is yours but he doesn’t want me to play you. We were playing in Mbombela, and I came on in the second half against SuperSport United.

“I got on to the pitch and created a goal. I crossed the ball to Bacela and he equalised. We went to penalties. After the game, Floyd came to me and said, ‘this is the Juju I know’.

“And I said, ‘but you and Bra Stan don’t want me to play yet we are going to the final. I didn’t even play the final when we played against Platinum Stars because I told him that the didn’t want me to play.

“I still don’t know what led to the decision to not play me. Maybe the off-field incidents or maybe because I was vocal. I would say if something is not right,” he added.

“For example, we go into dressing room to dehydrate, Screamer and Floyd would be in the other room, and the coach would come from the same room. And when they coach comes, they had already told him what to do,” continued Mbuyane.

“I don’t know why they are not coming down to the bench because I still feel if they were fair enough to the coaches who left, they should have came down from the stands to the bench.

“I mean, at Pirates, a coach doesn’t have the luxury to recommend which players to sign. They sign players for you.

So, back to how Mbuyane left Pirates, he claims he had entered the final six months of his contract and he got a call from Pro Sport International on transfer deadline day.

And that’s when he was told that Pirates wanted to loan him to Mpumalanga Black Aces, and that everything had been finalised except for the personal terms.
