Mother sadly passed away before getting justice for her son who has been missing for almost three years now has been buried.

Matshidiso Matshinge was laid to rest at Itsuseng Phase 6 Cemetery in Mabopane, Tshwane on Saturday, 1 March 2025.

The 55-year-old Matshidiso was described by family and friends as a woman who loved praying.

The family was shocked that Matshidiso committed suicide in her home in Phase 8, Itsuseng in Mabopane, on Thursday, 20 February 2025.

The family said that Matshidiso hanged herself in a toilet burglar.

They said that she was too stressed after her son Lesedi Matshinge (14) went missing in 2022. The family alleged that Lesedi was taken by a family member to an initiation school in Rosslyn, Tshwane.

Thomas Matshinge, Matshidiso’s cousin, said: “We are in great pain, and it’s a problem as we don’t know what is happening. As family, we are heartbroken and need help.”

He urged anyone who knows about the whereabouts of Lesedi to come forward.

“We want anyone who is involved in the disappearance of Lesedi to be arrested so that we can get closure,” he said.

Betty Malatji, Matshidiso’s aunt, said they’re struggling to accept what is happening because the family was still struggling to cope because of missing Lesedi, and the death of his mum has made it worse.

“Matshidiso was a good person. She liked joking and praying. She was stressed by the disappearance of her son,” she said.

Neighbour gogo Anna Manabe (71) said: “We are heartbroken. We lost a loving person. She was always encouraging us.”

She said whenever she had life problems, Matshidiso would share Bible verses.

“She was good-hearted and caring,” she said.

Friend Phumzile Mthembu said that she will always remember Matshidiso.

“I was with her in the morning before her death. She gave me some flowers. I’ve lost a great and loving friend,” she said.

She said hearing about her death was too painful.

She said her friend always wanted closure after her son went missing, adding that she always read the Bible and loved praying.

“May her soul rest in peace.”
