Media and Public Statement by the MEC for Transport and Human Settlements Siboniso Duma
02 February 2026
Inkosi Mhlabunzima Maphumulo House: I have received a report from the team we assigned to be closer to the Mnyango family.
In a meeting yesterday, the family expressed their wish to lay to rest their loved ones this Sunday.
Date: 08 February 2026
Time:09h00
Venue: Mawombe Stadium, Ward 11 (Umfolozi Local Municipality)
I have mandated officials from the department to attend to every detail and ensure a dignified funeral.
Critically, tomorrow, surviving family members will identify the deceased at the mortuary in Empangeni.
This is the most traumatic process. It is for this reason we have accordingly deployed our chaplains to comfort the family.
In addition, we are grateful to the MEC for Social Development Mbali Shinga who has deployed a team of social workers. They will provide much needed psychosocial support to the family members.
We bow our heads with a high level of humility. We are asking God to receive the souls of six members of Mnyango family.
