Maskandi fan Wandile Dlamini wants justice after he was allegedly assaulted by maskandi star Mthandeni Manqele.

Wandile said he opened an assault case against the musician and is heartbroken that it was withdrawn with no justice served.

He claimed his biggest mistake was calling the musician by his nickname, Dududunu, which led to a slap caught on camera and trending on social media.

Wandile (36) from Chesterville, west of Durban in KZN, said he was assaulted by the star at Why Not Tavern in Chesterville on 19 December 2024.

He said it happened shortly after Mthandeni finished his performance.

Wandile told Daily Sun that after Mthandeni’s performance, he approached him to take pictures.

“I’m actually his fan, and I dressed like him with a Brentwood trouser and hat. I wanted to take pictures after his performance. My mistake was calling him Dududunu, as many people do without being assaulted,” he said.

Wandile said he felt embarrassed because the incident was captured and trended on social media.

“I was hoping for justice after that embarrassing incident, as I opened an assault case and had an officer updating me. I was heartbroken when I received an SMS saying my case was withdrawn, and the docket was closed on 25 February 2025,” he said.

Wandile said he won’t let this go as the incident trended on social media.

Daily Sun contacted Mthandeni for comment, but he was unavailable. His manager, Simphiwe Masondo, said they were unaware of an assault case against Mthandeni.

“During that incident, Mthandeni just missed the person with a slap, and others assaulted him. Why not open a case against others too? Mthandeni is too busy to entertain those who discredit him,” Masondo said.

KZN police spokeswoman Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo confirmed the assault case against Mthandeni and referred Daily Sun to the NPA for why it was withdrawn.

KZN NPA spokeswoman Natasha Ramkisson-Kara promised to comment when they are in a position to do so.

“We acknowledge receipt of your query and will endeavour to respond as soon as we are in a position to do so,” she said.
