A 35-Year-Old motorist shoots and kills alleged hijackers.
The motorist killed the three suspects on Tuesday morning, 29 October, who allegedly tried to hijack his vehicle on the N1 north Diepkloof interchange.
This after the armed suspects allegedly stopped the motorist, informing him that there was a problem with his car, only to find out they wanted to hijack him.
Gauteng police spokeswoman Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said the cops received a call earlier in the morning that there was a shooting.
“When we got here, we saw that three people were fatally shot. According to the information we received, the shot suspects were allegedly trying to hijack the victim, and he had a firearm. And that’s when he shot them.
“It’s alleged that a man was driving on the highway when occupants in two different vehicles signaled him to stop and showed him what looked like a police appointment certificate.”
“When he stopped, three men from a red Kia Rio vehicle approached and told him there’s something wrong under his car,” said Nevhuhulwi.
She said when the motorist bend to check, he was pointed with a knife and instructed not to move as they wanted his car and not him.
“The man, who had a firearm on his waist immediately responded and started shooting. Suspects from another vehicle (a blue Ford Focus) shot back while driving off. Three suspects were declared dead on the scene,” said Nevhuhulwi.
She said that two vehicles were involved.
“Another vehicle fled the scene after the three suspects were shot. The suspects tried to fire at the victim while fleeing the scene. The police will be investigating a case of murder, attempted murder and attempted hijacking,” she said.
The police urge anyone who may know the whereabouts of the other suspects or might have any information that can help with the police investigation to contact CrimeStop on 08600 10111.
Motorists are once more urged to exercise vigilance when driving and to report any suspicious activities.
