Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs midfielder George Maluleka insists he has not retired following his exit from AmaZulu and has kept the door open on finding a new team.
At 35, most footballers would have called time on their careers. However, ‘Mido’ believes he still has enough in the tank for at least two more years in the topflight.
Speaking to 947’s MSW, he dismissed suggestions that he had retired following his exit from AmaZulu at the expiry of his contract, ending a two-year stay with the side.
“Leaving AmaZulu? I wouldn’t say it’s the way I wanted it to end. I would have loved to stay, but it was a horrible season.
“My second season was hard. I got injured, I didn’t play enough,” the midfielder said.
“I’m a baller, I’m still a baller, I love football, I’m passionate about it. I’m still club-hunting and I believe something will come up.
“We are working very hard. My agent is still out there (looking for a club) trying to make sure we get the right deal. But I still have a lot in my legs, so, I’m not about to hang the boots just as yet.
“I have always said I love this game so much. I think at this point and time, money is the last thing on my mind.
“I’ve always been on the field and that’s where I want to be. So, I just want to play.
“I’m fully recovered, and that’s one of the first questions I get a lot [about his injuries].
“I have been training, and I have been seeing my [biokineticist] a lot more. He works specifically on those muscles, the specific muscles,” added Maluleka.
With three league titles under his belt, the ex-Ajax Cape Town man would bring a wealth of experience to any side he joins and it remains to be seen where he ends up by the time the Betway Premiership season commences on September 14.
