Maskandi Star Limit Nala is now a new taxi boss after winning a taxi at the Annual Mother Of All Maskandi festival.
The 26-year-old musician from former president Jacob Zuma’s village, KwaNxamalala in Nkandla, KZN, said he had never imagined himself owning a taxi.
Limit won a new Toyota Quantum during the second annual Mother of All Maskandi Festival held at People’s Park stadium in Durban on Saturday, 5 April.
He was voted by fans through SMSs into the top 30 maskandi musicians.
Limit won with 152,886 votes while another maskandi star Menzi Mabizela was the runner-up with 68,721 and walked away with a R70,000 cash prize.
Since the competition was announced in February, Limit has been leading the votes and now he has driven the new taxi to his home.
Limit, who is known for his hit songs including Uvume Kanjani, thanked music lovers for believing in him and voting for him in a much-contested competition.
“I would also like to confirm all the musicians who were with me in the competition. I want to assure them that they must not give up because one day they are the ones who will win.
“I don’t have enough words to show how much I appreciate this win. I never thought that in my life I would be having a taxi. What I can say is I love them all. The competition is coming back next year and please vote for others,” he said.
During the campaigns for the competition, many people believed that there was a personal war between Limit and Menzi as they were contesting for the taxi.
Limit clarified that there was nothing of the sort and his win doesn’t mean that he’s now enemies with Menzi.
“I was with Menzi now talking about our careers and I can assure you that we will never have a beef. He is a good musician, and he had the best album last year and I won’t be jealous of him,” he said.
The competition started in 2023 when the first taxi was won by maskandi star Gatsheni who drove it to his home in Pongola, KZN.
Event organiser Zimdollar Biyela said their aim is to see maskandi musicians owning taxis and having another source of income.
