Drunk boyfriend sentenced to life for the murder of a six-week-old baby in Tsakani.
This after the 27-year-old man became aggressive and threatened to burn his girlfriend (35) and her two kids with boiling water if he wasn’t given his beers.
The girlfriend from Tsakani, Ekurhuleni, ran outside to call neighbours for help.
However, the boyfriend boiled the kettle and allegedly tried to burn the three-year-old boy, but he escaped.
Unfortunately, the six-week-old baby wasn’t so lucky.
The heartless boyfriend poured the boiling water in the bucket and allegedly immersed the baby.
When the mum returned to find her baby in hot water, she kicked the bucket, but it was too late.
The baby girl had sustained serious burns and sadly died at the hospital.
On Friday, 1 August, the man was sentenced to life in prison by the Tsakani Magistrates Court for the murder of his six-week-old infant that occurred in February 2024.
The sentence follows the hard work of Constable Mluleki Mpempeni of the Springs Family Violence, Child Protection Services, and Sexual Offences Unit, who was assigned the case.
Initially, a charge of attempted murder was registered with the police, but it was later changed to murder after the infant’s death.
Major-General Anna Sithole, the Ekurhuleni district commissioner, praised the unit for their dedication, saying that the conviction ensures “heartless criminals are removed from the community”.
The devastated mum said she regrets bringing the man into her life and wishes “the man could rot in jail”.
