Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed the departure of one of their midfielders as the club begin to reshape their squad ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Amakhosi are preparing for a new era under incoming head coach Fernando Da Cruz, who is expected to arrive in the coming weeks alongside his technical team.

With the club already laying the groundwork for the new campaign, Chiefs have begun making decisions on the players who will form part of Da Cruz’s plans, with George Matlou becoming the first confirmed departure.
Matlou departs after four seasons
Chiefs announced on Wednesday that Matlou’s contract will not be renewed when it expires at the end of June.
“After four seasons with Kaizer Chiefs, George Matlou’s contract will not be renewed when it expires at the end of June 2026,” read the club’s statement.
The 27-year-old attacking midfielder joined the Glamour Boys from Swallows FC in July 2022 and went on to make a valuable contribution during his time at Naturena.

“The 27-year-old attacking midfielder joined the Glamour Boys from Swallows FC in July 2022 and played an important role in the squad that lifted the Nedbank Cup during the 2024/25 season.
“We thank George for his commitment and contribution to Amakhosi and wish him well in his future career.”

Matlou is unlikely to be the last player to leave Naturena during the current transfer window, with Chiefs expected to make further changes to their squad as they continue preparations for Da Cruz’s arrival and the new season.
