A 60-year-old Patrick Bheki Nkosi was sentenced to serve two terms of life imprisonment after the Vryheid Regional Court found him guilty of raping two boy children. The sentence was handed down on 04 September 2024.

On the evening of 11 July 2019, two boy children, who were four and five years old at the time, were sent to the nearby shop when the now convicted rapist called them into his house and raped both of them.

After raping them he gave them R2 and instructed them not to tell anyone. The rape was noticed by one of the boy’s mother who inspected him after the child complained of a pain on his buttocks.

The boy told his mother of the rape ordeal and the matter was reported to the police who acted swiftly and arrested the suspect.

The man, who was a teacher at the school which the boys attended, remained in custody until the day of his sentencing.

According to KZN South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda, said in July 2019, the children were sent to the shop.

“They were aged 4 and 5 at the time. Nkosi called them to his house where he raped them. He then gave them R2 and told them not to tell anyone about what had happened,” he said.

“The matter was reported to police who arrested the suspect. The man, who was a teacher at the school that the boys attended, remained in custody until the day of his sentencing,” Netshiunda said.

“It sets a precedent and serves as a powerful deterrent for potential offenders.”

“While the child will need years of therapy and the abuse will have a lasting impact, justice has been served.

“This case sends a strong message to victims, encouraging them to come forward, knowing their voices will be heard and believed,” said Childline KZN director, Adeshini Naicker.
