Former assistant coach at Kaizer Chiefs Farouk Khan insists big clubs should never undergo a rebuilding phase.

Khan insists that big clubs should always be challenging for silverware and should never use rebuilding a squad as an excuse.

“You can’t rebuild a Chiefs please, Chiefs are a huge club, and big clubs do not rebuild,” Khan told KickOff.

“Big clubs strengthen, big clubs reinforce, you can’t rebuild an institution.

“You can rebuild Checkers, Pick n Pay, Shoprite and all these other stores but you can’t reconstruct an institution.

“You can’t rebuild a Chiefs team, you reinforce it. Barcelona is not rebuilding, they are reinforcing.”

Khan added that he was left impressed as the Soweto giants clinched a hard-fought win over Richards Bay.

“Each point is important, it’s just unfortunate that Yusuf Maart got sent off, but he took one for the team,” Khan added.

“On another day, Chiefs could have won by five or six goals, but unfortunately, Maart got sent off.

“After Maart got sent off, they had to be careful and not open up too much at the back.

“The 1-0 is not a true reflection, Chiefs could have beaten them by three or four.

“Once Chiefs get more organised, I think it will be difficult, the league is more open for everybody now.

“If they continue playing as they did on Saturday, I believe they might bring in some silverware this season.”
