SC Braga have made a decision on the future of South Africa youth international Kobamelo Kodisang who has been linked with Kaizer Chiefs in recent months.
The 22-year-old forward who’s also comfortable in a playmaker role was set to become a free agent in July which sparked interest from several clubs over the mercurial talent that’s starred in their B team over the past three seasons since his arrival from the now-defunct Bidvest Wits.
Kodisang has been training regularly with the first team and recently made his first-team debut in the Portuguese top-flight and while it seemed as if he would be heading out the exit in July upon the expiry of his contract, Braga has exercised their option, which iDiski Times reported they had back in April.
“Braga has activated an option for two years, we believe that ‘KK’ is ready to start competing for a place in the first team, we’ve made it clear to Braga that he won’t go out on loan, so talking to KK, if Braga are keen to give him an opportunity in the first-team [then] he is keen to stay there because it’s a big club,” Makaab said on Gigasi FM.
However, Makaab admits it’s not completely in black and white that he will remain at the club next season, with crucial talks expected over how they view his immediate future with the club going into the 2022/23 season.
“If they intend to loan him out to the second division that’s something he doesn’t want and we as his agency won’t accept. If the opportunity [arises] and a deal that’s on the table that is acceptable to both Braga and him as a player, he’ll consider it.
“But his first option will be to stay in Europe and we need to encourage that, he needs to realise his full potential, he’s a talented player and has done incredibly well for the reserve team, scoring many goals from a wide position and not as a nine – he is a talented player, I believe it’s a matter of time… he needs a break.”
Kodisang has scored 16 goals in 55 games for the club’s reserve team after initially starring in the third-tier with Sanjoanense, where he was on loan from the Clever Boys four years ago.
