Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has announced his final 23-man squad for the all-important 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Liberia.

Broos had initially selected 36-man preliminary squad but had to cut out 13 names ahead of the two clashes with Liberia.

South Africa face Liberia at home on 24 March, before meeting them in Monrovia four days later. Four points from those two clashes would all but secure the AFCON qualification after both teams lost to Morocco.

With Zimbabwe, the fourth team in Group K, still banned from international football by FIFA, the top two teams from the group will make it through.

With Morocco all but qualified after picking up two wins from their first two games, South Africa and Liberia battle it out for second place.

And many Bafana internationals enter the double-header in superb condition, with fans and neutrals believing Broos has selected one of his strongest squads since taking over in May 2021.

Broos himself has insisted that he hasn’t thought about not qualifying for the upcoming AFCON, insisting the players now also need to believe.

“Honestly, until now I didn’t think about we will not win. Because I’m sure in the qualities that we have that we can beat them. The only thing now is that also the players have to believe.

“It’s up to us now to make them believe into the qualities we have. Just believe in our own qualities. If we believed in our own qualities and we are mentally strong, we will two times,” he said during the announcement on SABC 1.
