Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Monnapule Saleng was just one step away from joining Kaizer Chiefs before he joined the Buccaneers.
An Amakhosi supporter as a boy, Saleng explained in the Sowetan back in 2022 via SABC Sport: “I should have played for Chiefs because there was a scout from the club who was following me at Free State Stars.

“I don’t know what happened. But in the end, I ended up playing for Pirates… after Chiefs delayed signing me.”
The mercurial winger spent a spell on loan with Orbit College, notching up two goals and three assists in 11 league outings before sealing a much-talked-about permanent switch to Sundowns in January this year.
The Glamour Boys have emerged as genuine title contenders for Orlando Pirates.
