At least 11 learners have died following a tragic private scholar transport incident in Vanderbijlpark, Gauteng, on Monday morning.
According to a media advisory issued by the Gauteng Department of Education, the incident occurred earlier on Monday, 19 January 2026.

Preliminary reports indicate that 11 learners were declared dead at the scene, while five others sustained critical injuries and were being transported to hospital for urgent medical treatment.
The Gauteng MEC for Education, Matome Chiloane, is expected to visit the scene as emergency services continue with response and recovery operations.
At the time of reporting, the scene remained active, with paramedics, police and other emergency personnel attending to the incident.
Authorities had not yet released details regarding the cause of the crash or the type of vehicle involved.
