A Michaelhouse pupil and his parents have died in a car accident between Mooi River and Greytown this afternoon (Saturday).
The Grade 8 pupil’s brother is in critical condition following the crash.
The family was reportedly on their way home after attending a Sevens rugby game when the accident occurred.
In a statement posted on their Facebook page, Michaelhouse expressed their deepest condolences to the grieving family.
RTI’s Chief Provincial Inspector Andre Horner says the injured have been taken to various hosipitals.
“The accident happened on the R622 Greytown road near Garewood farm plus or minus 10km from Mooi Plaza, two vehicles are involved and Toyota Fortuner.”
“Four occupants were in the vehicle, three fatalities and one seriously injured. The second vehicle, eight fatalities and two seriously injured. There is an obstruction on the road.”
“Three injured, one was taken to Midlands hospital and the other two have been taken to Greytown hospital. The SAPS is currently investigating and at this stage the cause of the accident is unknown.”
In addition to this incident, two other accidents took place on the N3 on Saturday, one of which involved pupils travelling in a school taxi.
