Marumo Gallants head coach Romain Folz says they only have themselves to blame after the loss despite being the “better team”.

Paseka Mako scored the only goal of the game for Pirates as early as the third minute to seal victory at the Orlando Stadium.

Folz feels being better the team doesn’t mean anything if you don’t secure maximum points.

“I think we were a better team in the field but as you can see being the team does not get you the win,” Folz told SuperSport TV.

“I think I can only blame myself for the loss today, conceding a goal after three minutes, it puts yourself in a difficult situation from the get go.

“We played well, we know we have goals, we know we can match up with the big clubs around here, we know we can do that but at the end of the day it’s not enough.

“If you do a better game than the opposition and end up with a loss it’s not worth it, so we need to be more focused in key moments of the game, the start of the game is one of them.

It’s a silly mistake that we made with a ball into space like that on a situation that is not even built by the opponent, so we only have ourselves to blame.

“My point being that if we are conceding a loss by being completely out-played by the opposition is one thing.

I’d be very worried, I would say ok we cannot handle the opposition, we cannot out-play them, we cannot stop them from attacking us.

“That’s not the case. I think if we play the game again tomorrow, it’s probably a different result but at the end of the day we have the loss, we must accept it. We know we can do better.”
