The N3 westbound, from Durban to Pietermaritzburg, has been reopened following a four-vehicle accident near Cliffdale on Saturday.
Vehicles were being diverted at Peacevale/Cliffdale to utilise Sterspruit Road.

According to the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) spokesperson Sindi Msimang, this accident occurred when the emergency services were busy cleaning up the N3 after a truck lost its load in the early hours of Saturday.
“This load is said to be a certain chemical which is not harmful.”

She said a fire truck that was part of the clean-up failed to brake on time while approaching the scene and an accident occurred.
“The driver sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to hospital,” she said.
