Mpho Makola’s surprise departure from Cape Town City on transfer deadline has ignited interest despite his age.

Makola joined City in July 2019 after spending seven years at Pirates who he had joined after four years at Free State Stars.

His appearance count for this season stood at 15 with his last involvement having been against Chippa United on January 14 before City suddenly announced that they are cutting ties with him.

A short statement from the club stated

“City has agreed to part ways with Mpho Makola by mutual agreement.

“The club thanks Bibo for his contribution throughout the years,” read a statement from the club about the man who turns 37 in May.

Makola’s one-year deal that he signed last year was due to run up at the end of June before the latest developments.

In the aftermath of his departure from City there has already been inquiries about his services and the weight of his package.

Two clubs in the DStv Premiership have taken interest while another two in the Motsepe Foundation Championship are sniffing from a distance.
