A 38-year-old foreign national was arrested in Cape Town in the early hours of Tuesday, 13 May 2025.

Cops seized more than R1 million in local and foreign currency during a raid on a residence in Parklands.

Acting on a tip-off, Provincial Operational Command Centre officers raided a property on Holly Crescent in Table View.

The suspect was found with a large sum of cash and a bag containing bank cards linked to multiple individuals.

Police spokesman Captain Frederick Van Wyk said: “The members armed with information about drug dealings descended on the residence situated in Holly Crescent in Table View where they ensued with a search, leading to the discovery.

“Not only did the members find the cash, but also a bag with bank cards belonging to various people.”

“The occupants of the residence were unable to provide a valid reason for possessing the items, and the 38-year-old suspect was subsequently arrested on suspicion of possession of suspected stolen property and conspiracy to commit cyber-crime.”

The suspect will appear in the Cape Town Magistrates Court on Thursday, 15 May.

Detectives from the Provincial Organised Crime and Commercial Unit are investigating, and more charges may follow.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident last month, police arrested two suspects aged 34 and 36 in Kensington for carrying large sums of unexplained cash and burglary tools.

At the time of the incident, police spokeswoman Anelisiwe Manyana said: “Through proactive policing, SAPS members brought two suspects to book who were found in possession of a large sum of cash, a dangerous weapon, housebreaking implements and presumed stolen property.”

She said officers were patrolling hotspot areas in Kensington early on Friday, 25 April 2025, when they noticed two unknown men carrying backpacks along Voortrekker Road.

Manyana said cops became suspicious and decided to search the men.

During the search, authorities found R358 000 in cash, a knife, wire cutters, mobile phones, and screwdrivers.
