Integrated police efforts led to the swift arrest of five suspects, aged between 31 and 40, in connection with the brutal murder of two unidentified women in Namibia Square, Manguang in the Free State.

The breakthrough follows a gruesome discovery made by members on patrol in the early hours of Sunday morning, 08 February 2026.

At approximately 01:50, officers came across the bodies of two women lying in a pool of blood on a street in Namibia Square.

Both victims had sustained fatal gunshot wounds to the back of their heads and were declared deceased on the scene.

Following the discovery, an intelligence-led investigation was immediately launched.

At approximately 13:30, members of the Provincial Tracking and Tracing Team, in collaboration with the Parkweg Tactical Response Team (TRT), acted on crucial information from the community regarding the suspects’ whereabouts.

The team intercepted a white Toyota Quantum with four occupants. In a striking turn of events, the vehicle was tactically stopped on the very same street where the murders had occurred earlier that day.

Upon searching the vehicle and the occupants, police recovered One unlicensed 9mm pistol with six rounds of live ammunition.

The five suspects, all foreign nationals, were immediately taken into custody.

They face multiple charges such as murder (2 counts), possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition as well as contravention of the Immigration Act.

The suspects are expected to appear before the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court soon.

Investigations continue to determine the motive behind the killings and to identify the two victims.
