Mourners have gathered at the Naledi Community Hall to bid farewell to the five children who died from alleged food poisoning on Sunday, 6 October.
The five children who died were Monica Sethakge (6), Njabulo Msimango (7), Isago Mabote (8), Zinhle Masilela (8), and Karabo Rampou (9).
It’s alleged they succumbed to food poisoning after consuming snacks, popularly known as brown dash, which were reportedly bought from a spaza shop.
During the memorial service held at the same hall in Soweto on Friday, 11 October, Busi Mguni, a family representative of one of the five Naledi children who died, said she believes the death of the children was a sacrifice.
Agnes Mabote, the gogo to Isago Mabote (8), previously told Daily Sun that Isago left the house to go play with his friends.
But to her surprise, when he came back from playing, he kicked the door while entering the house.
“He was scolded for kicking the door. He then said: ‘Lesedi, I’m shaking, I am dizzy.’ He then threw himself in front of me.
“He asked me to help him. I then asked what he did. His shaking worsened, and he started sweating,” she said.
