With Kaizer Chiefs having wrapped up the signing of Stellenbosch speedster Ashley Du Preez, we take a look at the five players who could be affected by his arrival.
The Siya crew broke the news on Sunday that Chiefs and Stellenbosch had opened formal discussions over the transfer of the 24-year-old striker.
The crew subsequently reported that the two parties had agreed terms for a transfer, subject to the player’s terms being met. With Du Preez’s camp seemingly happy with Chiefs’ offer, the crew understands that the transfer is as good as done, with Chiefs landing their man ahead of the 2022/23 season.
Now, with Du Preez set to form part of a new-look Chiefs attack, who in the current squad are affected by his arrival?
Samir Nurkovic
Nurkovic has been a shadow of the striker that took the PSL by storm in his maiden season. Injuries and a lack of form have hampered the Serbian’s campaign and he has sensationally been linked with a move to Royal AM at the end of the season.
Bernard Parker
Chiefs interim coach Arthur Zwane has been non-committal when asked about Parker’s future in recent times. The veteran striker (36) did feature in 26 games for Chiefs in the 2021/22 season, although it remains to be seen whether his future lies on or off the pitch at Chiefs.
Leonardo Castro
Another Chiefs attacker that has been strongly linked with an exit from the club. Chiefs are understood to be looking at easing their wage bill as to make room for new recruits to come in and Castro looks increasingly likely to be a casualty of a Chiefs overhaul.
Lazarous Kambole
Now in his third season with Chiefs, Kambole has struggled to impose himself at the club and looks set for an exit with the Siya crew reporting last month that there was stern interest in his services from within Zambia. His disappointing Chiefs spell looks to have reached its conclusion.
Lebogang Manyama
Manyama is another that has failed to set the scene alight since his return from Turkey four seasons ago. With just 11 appearances to his name this campaign this season, failing to register a single goal or an assist for someone who plays in an advanced role for Chiefs, could the 31-year-old’s time at the club be up?
