Soccer-Laduma has revealed that R40 million is believed to be the price Kaizer Chiefs could get for striker Ashley Du Preez from Portuguese club Vitoria SC, if the deal eventually goes through.
However, for a team that struggled to score goals last season, is he worth that much or were there other reasons why Amakhosi didn’t score enough?
One of the football professionals who believes that the former Stellenbosch FC striker is worth every cent, is former Chiefs coach Mushin Ertugral who says that price tag is right for the striker.
The Turkish based coach, talking to Soccer Laduma in an exclusive interview, stated that teams in Portugal don’t just look at talent but business as well and that means this makes business sense and it is the right price for Du Preez.
“It’s a good offer, which Portugal has for me one of the best scouts and talent education. They see it as business and probably the investment will have bigger returns in their mind.
“So for that matter I think it’s a good offer and the striker is worth that amount. It’s good that there are South African strikers attracting interest from Europe,” Ertugral told the Siya crew.
The coach who also worked with Ajax Cape Town and Orlando Pirates, amongst other clubs, observed that there are more attributes to a striker than just scoring goals.
“For Vitoria SC to make that R40 million offer, it means they saw his attributes as a complete player and not just a striker. As I have said, for them it’s more of a business venture and investment.
“They have the best scouts who know how important a player is in the role they would want to play. So it’s good for the player and for Chiefs,” Ertugral concluded.
Chiefs are looking to finalise the deal before the close of the transfer window period to boost their financial situation when it comes to bringing in other targets.
