Former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana Defender Eric Mathoho Could Face Asset Seizure Over R400 000 Debt.

Former Kaizer Chiefs and South African international defender Eric “Tower” Mathoho is reportedly on the brink of having his assets seized to settle a R400 000 debt, amid claims he has been avoiding the sheriff tasked with enforcing a court order.

Legal proceedings were initiated after Mathoho failed to satisfy the outstanding debt, leading to a court order authorising enforcement action.

According to sources, the sheriff has been unable to locate the ex-Amakhosi defender to execute the order, raising the prospect of his property being attached and auctioned to recover the funds.

Mathoho, 35, enjoyed a long career with Kaizer Chiefs featuring in over 200 matches and representing South Africa’s senior team, Bafana Bafana before leaving the club in 2023.

This latest development adds to a series of financial challenges reportedly faced by the former centre-back, with past media coverage highlighting separate issues relating to loan agreements and asset forfeiture proceedings.

Efforts to reach Mathoho for comment were unsuccessful at the time of publication.
