Six men and two women have died after they were gunned down while drinking in a shack at Umlazi south of Durban.
It’s alleged that on Friday night 16 May, a group of people were having drinks and enjoying themselves at Zama Zama shacks in the U Section in a tavern, when unknown suspects suddenly came in, opened fire and escaped the scene.
The eight victims aged between 22 and 40 all died at the scene and were found lying in a pool of blood.

It’s unclear why these people were killed.
KZN police spokesman Colonel Robert Netshiunda said cops have launched a manhunt for an unknown number of suspects who shot and killed eight people on Friday evening.
He said police responded to reports of multiple murders and upon arrival at the scene, eight people were dead.
Six men and two women, whose ages range between 22 and 40 years old, were found lying in a pool of blood with multiple gunshot wounds.
“It is reported that the victims were inside the dwelling when an unknown number of suspects entered and opened fire, killing them instantly.”
“Investigations into the possible motive of the killings are underway and police have launched a manhunt for the suspects,” he said.
Netshiunda said police are appealing to anyone who might have information which can assist in the investigation to contact the nearest police station or call CrimeStop on 08600 10111.
A resident, who asked not to be named, said he has decided to stay at home because at taverns people get killed for no reason.
“I heard they were robbed, but then why shoot so many people? I think there is more to this than a robbery,” he said.
