Egyptian Premier League star has now claimed that some Red Devils players told him the South African tactician is a “mediocre” coach.

Mosimane’s time in the Egyptian capital was largely successful as he led the Red Devils to three successive CAF Champions League final appearances, winning the continental showpiece in 2020 and 2021.

His time in Cairo, however, came to an unceremonious end following Al Ahly’s 2-0 CAFCL final defeat to Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca in May.

The defeat came in the midst of a poor run of form in the league and, ultimately, both Mosimane and the record African champions decided it was best that they parted ways.

In order to remedy their form in the league and recapture the title from eternal rivals Zamalek, Al Ahly decided to appoint Ricardo Soares as their new manager, but the Portuguese was unable to turn the club’s fortunes around.

Under his management, the Club of the Century won nine of 17 matches and finish third in the Egyptian Premier League, ultimately leading to his dismissal from the club.

While Mosimane was significantly more successful than Soares with the team, it seems some Al Ahly players thought of his tactics as underwhelming.

According to Pharco FC defender Ahmed Abdelaziz Mody, some of the Red Devils’ players thought Mosimane was an average coach.

“Zamalek deserved to win the league title,” Mody told Al Hayat TV.

“Jesualdo Ferreira is also a great coach and he has a good team.

“Some of the Al Ahly players told me that Pitso Mosimane is a mediocre coach and only wins by luck. I support his decision to leave the club.”

In recent weeks, calls for a return to the Egyptian side for Mosimane have been loud among the Ahly fan base.

Reports suggest that he and Carlos Queiroz are among the frontrunners to take the newly vacated head coach position at the club.
