DA Councilor Moshe Lefuma sadly passed away after being shot and killed along with his mother.
The vocal Moshe Lefuma was shot and killed on Saturday, 23 November.
Lefuma, who was a Maluti-a-Phofung Municipality councillor, was killed alongside his mother at his home in Bluegambosch Village, QwaQwa.
Lefuma together with DA members, Jafta Mokoena, Alison Oats, Ana Motaung and Richard Khumalo held a press conference at Cultural House in Phuthaditjhaba on Thursday, 22 November where they unpacked how corruption led to poor service delivery in the municipality.
Lefuma outlined that the Auditor-General Tsakane Maluleke’s report highlighted severe financial control deficiencies, including a lack of terms of reference for the Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC), irregular meetings and failure to investigate over R8 billion in unauthorised, irregular, fruitless, and wasteful expenditure.
Warrant officer, Mmako Mophiring said the police need urgent help to trace two armed suspects after a mother (61) and her son (40) were allegedly shot and killed in their home and the suspects fled on foot.
“Two man walked into the house asking for the son. The mother asked why they were looking for him, but they proceeded to his bedroom and she followed them. Suddenly, her younger son heard gunshots and fled the house.
“Police found two bodies in the bedroom. Both sustained fatal gunshot wounds on their heads and were declared dead by the Emergency Medical Service. The motive behind the killing is not yet known at this stage,” said .
Mophiring added that two cases of murder were registered at Phuthaditjhaba cop shop.
Mokoena, a DA Free State Member of Legislature, confirmed that Lefuma was killed alongside his mother.
