Cape Town City chairman John Comitis has admitted that the Betway Premiership title would hold be more interesting if it was won by either Orlando Pirates or Kaizer Chiefs rather than Mamelodi Sundowns.
Mamelodi Sundowns have been dominating the league for the last seven years, while Pirates have been the runners-up in the last two seasons.
Meanwhile, Amakhosi have struggled and finished in a disappointing 10th place in the 2023-24 season.
John Comitis insists that the PSL would benefit greatly if one of the Soweto giants were to win the league, as they are significant draws for sponsors.
“The PSL platform exposes a brand to a multimillion fanbase and corporates are not capitalising on this,” Comitis said on Sports Night Amplified.
“It’s important that Chiefs or Pirates win the league(PSL) soon because that is good for business.”
The CPT City boss stated that the other PSL clubs are at a disadvantage when teams other than Pirates or Chiefs are at the top.
“To me, and I know I’m speaking against myself, but when Chiefs and Pirates isn’t up there, we [City] can feel the down, as a team that is not Chiefs or Pirates,” Comitis added.
“When Chiefs and Pirates are winning, the stadiums are full and it’s a snowball effect.”
The PSL resumes next month and it will take something special for either Chiefs or Pirates to beat Sundowns for the title.
