A father who is  from Mqanduli in Eastern Cape is in trouble after his son shot and killed another child.

According to Daily Sun, The eight-year-old son killed his seven-year-old cousin on Thursday, 2 October with the dad’s gun.

According to police spokesman, Captain Welile Matyolo, the boy shot his cousin with his dad’s licenced firearm in the Nothintwa Locality at 12.45pm on Thursday.

“The boy reportedly got hold of the firearm in his dad’s bedroom, pointed the gun at his cousin and fired a shot, instantly killing the victim,” said Matyolo.

He said the 48-year-old dad is in trouble for failing to safeguard his firearm.

“A case of murder has been opened against the eight-year-old while a case of failure to safeguard a firearm has been opened against the boy’s dad, who appeared in the Mqanduli Magistrates Court on Friday, 3 October.”

“The eight-year-old has been referred to social workers,” said Matyolo.

Khula Community Project spokesman Petros Majola said this is a sad moment for the family, especially the dad.

“I am not defending anyone, but it is a painful situation for the family. We need to keep the family in our prayers.”

“This is not the time to point fingers. Let us support the family in this difficult time,” he said.
