An abandoned infant was rescued on Tuesday afternoon after a concerned motorist alerted emergency services to a distressing discovery between Old Ottawa Main Road and Woodview Drive.
KZN VIP Emergency Services responded to the call and, upon arrival, established that a vagrant had discovered a female infant, believed to be approximately one month old, near a stream in the area.

The infant had been abandoned with a bag of clothing and was found in a critical condition, suffering from severe dehydration and ant infestation.
The circumstances indicate that the child had been left exposed to the elements and at significant risk to her life.
KZN VIP Security Teams immediately requested medical assistance.
KZN VIP Emergency Medical Services arrived on scene, stabilised the infant, and transported her to hospital for further medical treatment.
Prior to transport, the baby was carefully washed, cleaned, and dressed to ensure her comfort and dignity.
The incident is extremely distressing and highlights the vulnerability of infants and the importance of community vigilance and swift reporting of suspicious or concerning situations.
