Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly set to tie down their veteran goalkeeper by offering him a one-year contract extension before July 2023.

Itumeleng Khune is in the final of few months of his contract with Chiefs, and according to The South African, the captain could be staying.

Khune is in the same situation as the likes of Khama Billiat and Erick Mathoho among many others but he’s among the most influential figures in the current Chiefs team.

“News reaching our desk is that Chiefs fan favourite goalkeeper, Itumeleng Khune, is set to get a new contract extension by one year despite being on the wrong side of 30 and not holding a starting position under head coach Arthur Zwane,” reports the publication.

Khune has been with Chiefs since he was 12 years-old. He was promoted to the first team in 2004, and in 2007, Khune made his Amakhosi debut.

Since then, Khune never looked back and his performances over the years earned him the nickname Mzansi’s No.1.

He won every single domestic trophy available with Chiefs, including three league titles, and he’s considered one of the most respected club legends.
