TS Galaxy goalkeeper Melusi Buthelezi is hoping to replicate the success of the late Senzo Meyiwa after being called up to Bafana Bafana.

Bafana Bafana are set to take on Sierra Leone and Botswana on Saturday and Tuesday with Hugo Broos naming three uncapped players in his 23-man squad.l

“I’m very happy to be one of the players selected to represent South Africa in the upcoming international break,” Buthelezi said.

“It [the Bafana call-up] is something I expected but I wouldn’t say that if it didn’t happen I would have been disappointed. I’ve been pleased with my performance so far.”

Buthelezi, who hails from Nquthu, in KwaZulu-Natal is also hoping to emulate the success enjoyed by previous Bafana Bafana goalkeepers like Senzo Meyiwa.

“I think getting a chance like this motivates me. It makes me want to improve myself, because obviously other goalkeepers from KZN who received this chance did very well. So it’s important for me,” Buthelezi added.

Buthelezi went on a four-match run without conceding a single goal in the league, the third-longest run in top-fight South African football history.

Other players who are in line to make their debut are Luke Le Roux, Sibongiseni Mthethwa and Mihlali Mayambela.
