A horrifying bus accident sadly claimed the lives of 10 people early on Wednesday morning, 5 February.

According to Dailysun, this tragic accident occurred on the N6 highway, about 15 kilometres south of Reddersburg, towards Smithfield, Free State.

The crash involved a City to City bus carrying 33 passengers, which collided with a truck, resulting in catastrophic damage.

Sipho Towa, a spokesman for emergency services, confirmed that the collision has led to over 31 injuries, with the death toll continuing to rise.

“Ten fatalities have been confirmed, although the number may change as rescue operations continue,” Towa said.

The road is closed at the crash site, and traffic is being directed to other routes.

Emergency services, including paramedics and police, are working hard at the scene.

“The priority is to extricate the last survivor from the wreckage,” added Towa.

As the investigation into the cause of the crash continues, residents and travellers are advised to avoid the area.
