Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has reacted to Kermit Erasmus’ Deadline Day move to Orlando Pirates and revealed what he must do to have a chance to return to the national team.

According to iDiski times, Erasmus, 32, completed a surprise move from Mamelodi Sundowns to the Buccaneers on Deadline Day after he had agreed to terminate his deal with Masandawana, which was still running until the end of the 2022/23 season.

The striker last featured for Bafana in 2020 but some hope that his move to Pirates could not just revive his club career but also see him back in national team colours.

Broos, though, insisted he must play regularly at his new club to have any realistic chance of being called up.

“For me, the most important thing is that whatever he changed or whoever he changed [to] is that he plays,” he told reporters when asked about Erasmus’ transfer.

“This is the most important. I have no problem that someone from Sundowns goes to Pirates or from Pirates goes to SuperSport, or whatever. This is not important for me.

“But when he changed, I hope he’ll play. That’s the most important thing.

“Again, I can’t do anything about that. If he changed and he doesn’t play that’s worse for the player himself and maybe I will be on some on some occasions in trouble because my players don’t play, the I have to look for something else again.

“But what can I do? I just see and I look and I hope that it doesn’t happen too much.”

Erasmus has made 20 appearances for Bafana so far, scoring twice and setting up three more, as per Transfermarkt.
