Premier Soccer League have laid charges against Kaizer Chiefs after the club’s fans invaded the pitch during and after their MTN8 quarter-final against Stellenbosch FC last weekend.

Chiefs beat Stellenbosch 4-3 on penalties at a packed Danie Craven Stadium, where Amakhosi fans invaded the pitch after the Amakhosi had equalised.

However, the game was able to be finished but 100s of fans again crowded the pitch after the final penalty, leading to both sets of players rushing into the tunnel.

On Saturday, PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu confirmed Chiefs will have to appear before the DC.

“I can confirm that charges were laid against Kaizer Chiefs and they will be appearing before the PSL DC this coming Thursday to answer to charges of spectator pitch invasion in their match against Stellenbosch FC,” he said via a statement.

“Once the DC has been finalised I’ll provide further details and the outcome thereof.”

Kaizer Chiefs defender Zitha Kwinika has called upon his teammates to start being consistent in their performances.

Amakhosi always blow hot and cold with a mix of different results. In the previous five league matches, the Soweto giants have two victories and three defeats in a pattern of LWLWL.

The former Stellenbosch FC captain believes that good results will start coming their way once the team becomes consistent in their performances. According to him, stability will be restored.

“We won the previous game [against Stellenbosch in the MTN8], so I think it’s a matter of consistency.

Maybe if we get to win four games in a row, the confidence will grow because we win one, lose one every time we bounce back,” Kwinika told the media.

“Now it’s a matter of getting stability to continue winning and sustain the performances. If we get that balance as a whole team, it will make things easier for the team going forward.”

“Never mind who is playing and who is not playing. I think that’s not important at this point.

It’s just about to gel as a team, even if the other one is not there for you not to even notice. I think it’s important.
