Society still shocked as the body of a 13-year-old boy was found dumped in an open veld in Delft, Westen Cape, on Tuesday, 3 December.

Community Police Forum (CPF) leader in Delft, Jacky Ockhuizen, reported being informed by a passing taxi commuter.

Authorities were promptly notified and responded quickly.

Ockhuizen noted that the boy seemed to have been attacked elsewhere and dumped in the veld. He was found with visible marks and wounds on his face and stomach.

Evidence suggests that the boy may have been tied up during the attack due to the marks on his hands.

“As CPF Delft leaders, we condemn any form of gender-based violence, child trafficking, child rape, and murders in the Delft area.”

“We plan to urgently meet with the Delft station commander to request additional police support and patrols this festive season to protect residents,” Ockhuizen said.

The boy was wearing maroon Converse All Stars, blue jeans, and a maroon T-shirt.

Police spokesman Captain Frederick van Wyk confirmed the incident.

“We’re investigating a murder case after the discovery of a 13-year-old body of a male on Tuesday, 3 December 2024, around 6.25am, in an open veld at the corners of Sarah Baartman and Symphony Way, Delft,” Van Wyk said.

“Upon arrival, officers found the teenager lying on his back with multiple injuries. Circumstances surrounding the fatal incident are under investigation.”

“No arrests have been made yet. Anyone with information is kindly requested to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111.”
