And his impact was immediately felt as St Louis went on to break the deadlock seven minutes. Tim Parker scored the history making opening goal.

Austin FC, restored parity on the stroke of half-time via a Sebastián Driussi goal. Jon Gallagher then doubled their scores after 72 minutes.

For a moment, it looked like Louis City lost it considering how they applied themselves in the second half.

However they turned on their screws in the last 15 minutes of the game to collect maximum points.

Jared Stroud levelled matters on the 78th minute as the new MLS side prodded hard for a winning goal.

They deservedly got their it right four minutes into time courtesy of brilliant goal by Brazillian João Klauss de Mello.

The win is undoubtedly a massive moral boaster for Blom who has done well to convince coach Bradley Carnell.

The ex-Amakhosi defender, Carnell, showed confidence in Blom when he called him into action early in the first half.

Blom recently joined the United States club having been at Kaizer Chiefs since 2019.

The exciting midfielder played at the Naturena based club for three-and-a-half years before deciding to go for a new challenge.

He signed a deal that will see him stay at the club until 2024, with an option to extend.

After a successful debut he will now hope to keep his place in the first team.

Meanwhile another Bafana Bafana star Bongokuhle Hlongwane was on parade as Minnesota edged FC Dallas 1-0.

Hlongwane played the whole 90 minutes as they also recorded a season opening win.
