Former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Khama Billiat in Financial Trouble, Risks Losing Assets in South Africa Over R400 000 Debt.
According to City Press, the former Kaizer Chiefs striker allegedly owes Standard Bank about R372,066.
A sheriff from the Johannesburg High Court has reportedly been unable to find Billiat to deliver a summons demanding repayment, as he no longer resides in South Africa.
The debt stems from an overdraft credit facility Billiat was granted in 2020. While the bank confirmed he made his last payment in 2023, he had been expected to pay monthly installments between R80,000 and R90,000 but failed to continue the payments.
Attempts to get a response from Billiat’s representatives on the matter were unsuccessful at the time of writing.
On a brighter note, Billiat is now officially the highest-paid player in the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League (ZPSL) for the 2025 season.
Having previously played for Kaizer Chiefs and been one of the top earners in the DStv Premiership, Billiat’s exact salary was not disclosed after his 2018 move from Mamelodi Sundowns.
Upon his return to Zimbabwe, Billiat became the league’s top earner while playing for Yadah FC, earning R95,500 (US$5,000) per month during the 2024 season.
Even after his contract with Yadah FC ended in December 2024 and his move to Scottland FC, he has continued to earn top wages.
Billiat now reportedly earns R108,800 (US$6,000) per month, maintaining his status as the highest-paid player in the league.
