Bafana Bafana legend Benni McCarthy has sent a message of support to Daine Klate after he was sacked by Chippa United after seven games.

The 37-year-old was appointed as the new head coach of the Chili Boys in the off-season after impressing with the DStv Diski Challenge squad last season.

He lead the reserve team to fourth place which promoted Chairman Siviwe Mpengesi to replace then interim coach Kurt Lentjies with the Premier Soccer League legend.

But his spell in his first-ever role as a senior head coach was short-lived with one win, two draws and four defeats which left them 16th in the table.

The decision came after Peter Shalulile scored a last-minute winner for the champions to down Chippa 1-0 on Wednesday evening, this website reported.

And after the decision, Manchester United attacking coach McCarthy sent the promising tactician some words of encouragement.

“What a big shame on Daine Klate, I know football is a result-driven sport but when you don’t give a coach time to change the team’s fortune[s], what chance is there for anyone,” McCarthy wrote on social media.

“You should be proud of what you [have] done so early in your coaching career. Bigger things await you.”

McCarthy started his senior managerial career with Cape Town City, where he won the MTN8 – before a stint at AmaZulu, where he led them to league runners-up and being sacked the following season.
